Oh wait… I get it now…
So it’s just occurred to me that the gay rights advocates are correct…
When I heard them protesting Obama, calling for marriage equality now, saying he broke his promise, I thought it a premature stance.
I wanted to give him more time. I believe the economy & wars are more important. I still believe they’re more important in the big picture.
Then I listened to the State of the Union address. I heard our president state that everyone is equal & deserves dignity. And it opened my eyes.
We’re all equal & deserve dignity, yet we can’t share our love equally? Then to add insult, decide we can give our lives equally? We should be allowed to die in a war as an openly GLBT person, but we dare not to love one another openly?
He may not have broken a promise; for what is a politician’s word worth? But, it is not enough to die for freedom we’re denied.
